Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro has got one of the anticipated Face Unlock feature via an Over the Air software update. At its has been launched in India last week, Xiaomi has promised with their customers that it will roll out the feature for the Redmi Note 5 Pro through an update by the March end, but it has now released the update in an apparent bid to please their initial prominent buyers. It worth noting that the Redmi Note 5 Pro is Xiaomi’s first smartphone in the country to get the feature of face unlock.
The Face Unlock feature on the Redmi Note 5 Pro is touted to be faster than the fingerprint scanner feature which is available in almost all the 4G phones. However, it is certainly not as secure as the fingerprint scanner. Xiaomi India’s Lead Product Manager Jai Mani at the launch event elaborated the AI says while empowering the Face Unlock. “Our face detection algorithm scans facial features in roughly 500 milliseconds using a high accuracy matching mechanism,” said Mani.
Xiaomi is bringing the Face Unlock feature through the MIUI v9.2.4 NIEMIEC update that comes in the storage of more than 1.6GB. The new software update also includes the improvements of the camera and some of the more stability optimizations.
The Redmi Note 5 Pro comes in two RAM options in India, with 4GB and 6GB RAM options. While the Redmi Note 5 Pro 4GB RAM variant is priced at the cost of Rs. 13,999, its 6GB version is available with a price tag of Rs. 16,999. Both the smartphone variant comes in Black, Gold, Lake Blue, and Rose Gold color options.
Now, the smartphone is running on the Android Nougat-based MIUI 9, the dual-SIM Redmi Note 5 Pro (Review) features a 5.99-inch full-High Definition (1080×2160 pixels) display with 18:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone is powered and supported by an octa-core Snapdragon 636 SoC, which is paired with Adreno 509 GPU and either 4GB or 6GB of RAM. It has a dual camera setup on the back, with 12-megapixel and 5-megapixel camera sensors.
The user can now download the update over the Wifi or via their Mobile data network.
